Bedtimes! for [community profile] thefridayfive

What do you wear to bed?

Usually PJ-pants and a tank top, sometimes PJ-shorts if it's hot.

What side of the bed do you sleep on?

I thought the right side, but now I think about it, it's actually the side closest to the door. Which at the moment is the right.

Are you back, side, or stomach sleeper?

Usually back or stomach, but I've been trying to sleep on my back more often.

How many layers of bedding are on your bed?

It depends on if I've made it yet or not. When it's made, 6 (mattress pad, fitted sheet, sheet, two blankets and a comforter); when I've washed the sheets and haven't gotten around to putting them back on yet (which can take a couple weeks :P), 3 (mattress pad, two blankets).

Are you a bed hog or a covers-thief?

Never a covers-thief, but every once in a while I'll be a bed hog. Usually, though, I sleep curled up in a corner (waste of a queen bed, oh well).

What are your five favourite sibling relationships?

1. Simon and River Tam (Firefly)

2. Sokka and Katara (Avatar: The Last Airbender)

3. Lucy and Edmund Pevensie (Chronicles of Narnia)

4. Jacen and Jaina Solo (Star Wars Expanded Universe)

5. Dean and Sam Winchester (Supernatural)

(It occurs to me that I don't have very many fandoms with prominent sibling relationships...)

How many schools (up until college) have you attended, in all?

A truly ridiculous number, I think. Home school, then Heath High, then a correspondent home school, then LVA, then the Nevada School of Massage Therapy, and now CSN. With plans to attend at least one more university before I'm done, possibly two.

How many states have you lived in before the age of 18? How many countries?

Three: Washington, Kentucky, and Nevada. Never even been out of country before, much less lived elsewhere.

Have you ever seen the hospital where you were born -- where is it/what's it's name?

Um, you know, I don't think so. It's in Bremerton - Harrison Medical Center (although at the time it was just Harrison Hospital). I was born there because at the time there wasn't a hospital in Port Orchard, where we actually lived. There's one there now, though, opened in 1995 - not long after we left, actually.

Do you plan to live in the same state in which you were born, or somewhere else?

Yes. Even if it's only briefly, while I go to school. The Pacific Northwest is what I consider "home," and I want to go back desperately.

Do you still talk to people from elementary school, middle-school or high school?

Pfft, no. I'm terrible about keeping in contact with people. I'll correspond for a year or two, one or two letters a year, with one or two people, but after that unless they're putting in the effort to stay in touch the best people can hope for is Facebook, which I check maybe twice a year.

Some futzing around I did in Photoshop using pictures I took of various siblings.

Yes, these are my younger brothers and sister. )

Also, etiquette question: is it skeazy to make icons using photos I've taken that others can use as well, not just for my own personal use? (With the people having given permission for me to use their images, obviously.)

What was the last book you read, and what is your opinion of it?

One of the Stephanie Plum novels, though I don't recall which one - I'm rereading them out of order. Hilarious as always, and frustrated that more people don't come to the obvious conclusion that Stephanie, Ranger and Morelli need to have a threesome.

What was the last movie you saw, and what is your opinion of it?

Oh, boy, I think it was The Incredible Hulk? And I thought that it wasn't nearly as bad as I remember everyone saying all the Hulk movies were. I was surprised to see Liv Tyler in it, honestly. Also, forget Hulk-Smash, how about some Hulk-vacuum-clapping?

No wait, it was Thor! Oh god, how I adore this movie. My thoughts and opinions run pretty much along the lines of "Loki, bb, let me give you ALL THE HUGS! Odin, you desperately need a good smack in the head and some parenting lessons. Thor, you are a sexy dork. Darcy, you said pretty much everything I was thinking of. Mud wrestling! Heimdall, you are the king of badass one-liners. The hammer is Thor's penis. Ergo, Thor pinned Loki to the Rainbow Bridge with his penis. WHY IS THERE PEACEFUL MUSIC AT THE END? LOKI FELL INTO THE COSMOS, THAT IS NOT PEACEFUL-MAKING!"

What was the last TV show you saw, and what is your opinion of it?

Sherlock, and while not as awesome to me as it clearly is to everyone else, still pretty damn awesome! Enough so that I've watched it in full more than five times in the last three weeks, and have gleefully introduced others to it so they might share in my "why did you show me this if I have to wait!" pain. I really wish they hadn't made John out to seem so foolish, though. Not to say that he wasn't intelligent, just, made to look dimmer than he really is so Sherlock really looked brilliant? Also, pretty much my entire reaction could be summed up as "Oh/Poor John."

And in the second episode, why did no one bother to knock over her chair?! It's an arrow, not a heat-seeking missile. Just get her out of the line of fire, then worry about untying her. Sheesh, and I thought you were supposed to be smart, Sherlock!

What was the last album you bought / downloaded, and what is your opinion of it?

David Cook's This Loud Morning and oh god, yes! So worth the terribly long wait! There is no song on that album I dislike, only some I like slightly less than I adore the others. "Goodbye to the Girl" is hands-down my favorite song on the album, and a close contender with "Permanent" for my favorite song by David, period. "Paper Heart" has a special place in mine because it was the first song off the album that he played live, and I was there. For that reason, I actually prefer it acoustically. I love how he made is very much a record, and not a bunch of singles thrown together with some filler. The beginning of "Circadian" and the end of "Rapid Eye Movement" just...mmmm.

What was the last meal you cooked, and how did it turn out?

Cooked? I don't cook. Um...probably French toast, and about as well as it usually does. I'm trying to figure out how to get the bread toasted all the way through without burning the eggs. My success in this endeavor...varies.

And just to clarify, this isn’t currently a concern for me, beyond the fact that I do own a gun, and will eventually have to deal with this.

What are your thoughts on roommates owning guns, and keeping them in the house? When I lived with my roommates, there was a situation (not involving them) where I would have felt much more comfortable and secure with a gun, but because my roommate was uncomfortable with guns, I settled for a stun gun. I felt much more comfortable when I moved back in with my parents and was able to purchase a gun then. It is kept in a locked gun safe, and the only people with keys are myself and my dad (who keeps the shotguns there).

But when you’re moving in with someone else, and you’re already in possession of a gun, at what point in the conversation do you bring that information up? Do you bring that information up, or do you leave it be? I’m of a mind to be sure before you start actually moving your belongings in that you should let them know as a courtesy, but your thoughts? Do you show them proof of registration? Do you tell them before you’ve signed anything, or after? How much of a sticking point is it, if you’re on the other side of the equation and someone’s moving in and you’re uncomfortable with guns, like my roommate was? How much of a difference, if any, does a locked gun safe make?

Also, at what point, if any, do you notify the landlord? I’ve not personally had to deal with a lease before, so is gun notification/control something that’s normally mentioned/included?

I took a jaunt to San Diego in July of last year - not realizing that it was the same weekend as Comic Con. Considering I hadn't made any sort of plans other than my intent to visit Los Angeles and San Diego and get lost (both of which I accomplished, in both cities, so there's that), you can imagine my frustration trying to find a hotel room for Saturday night at ~midnight. I ended up staying a night at a sorority house for my Tau Beta Sigma, my sister's sorority. I spent the rest of the time at the Marina Inn, not a block from the Inner Harbor. I loved it there. San Diego is a beautiful city.

The room where I stayed in Los Angeles. It was marvelous, and I wished I'd stayed there more than just the one night.

...except all of these were taken with my parents' crappy point-and-shoot digital camera, since I forgot to pack my own camera. WHY?

I went to Zion National Park with Alana for I believe Martin Luther King Day. Yes, that's in January. Yes, it was cold and wet and empty. It was awesome. Apparently, you normally have to take a bus into the park? But we were able to drive right in. There were very few people in the park, and we got to explore almost all the trails, though certain ones (like Angels Landing?) we decided not while there was ice and snow on the ground.

...you guys. I am making a family tree that covers 1060 years, 20+ generations, and 150+ actors and actresses. Why yes, I am finding actors, actresses, musicians, celebrities, etc that look similar enough to be considered family over a period of generations, all relating eventually back to Kris Allen, why do you ask? The canvas size is literally 6 feet by 10 feet, and it's not big enough. All of this work, and you want to know the kicker? The story hasn't even been written yet.

Someone save me from my insanity. Except not really, because when it isn't making me pull my hair out in frustration, it's utterly engrossing and proof of my utter ridiculousness. And my stubbornness - by now, I refuse to quit until it's bloody well finished.

Oh dear, there's so many!

Let's see, we've got [personal profile] thefourthvine's Crossover Paradise, with Reboot Spock, Kirk and Uhura as Dom, Brian and Letty from The Fast and the Furious, which I'm not quite sure how I want to tackle yet, but I very much want to tackle.

Then there's this prompt by [personal profile] inbetweencabs (which also produced the ever epic and fantastic Take All the Time Lost by [personal profile] writhedbeneath), that I'm very slowly planning/outlining a comic of sorts for.

And then there are a couple [personal profile] inception_kink art fills I was contemplating, including one of Arther and Eames as the angel/devil on Cobb's shoulder, and another of Arthur and Eames as Daniel and Vala from Stargate: SG-1. I have vague notions for a plot for this prompt, though I have no idea if I'd ever actually write/draw it. Then there's the Aladdin prompt. I'm not even in the Inception fandom; why are there so many art fills I want to do for it?

This isn't counting the various Big Bangs I'm still signed up for, and various other ongoing projects, including [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com]. Oy. Best get crackin', no?

The problem with blogging: we all think we are so close, but really, we know nothing about each other. So I want you to ask me something you think you should know about me. Something that should be obvious, but you have no idea about. Ask away. Then post this in your LJ and find out what people don't know about you!

Some of the amazing art I've come across looking for recs this month. Also, I am rebelling against every piece of XMFC art being named XMFC or X-Men: First Class! If that's the name of your art, I will dub it something different in my rec post, JSYK. Otherwise they would all be named "XMFC," and that gets awfully boring.

How It Works: choose a Kradam fan work, get permission (or check for blanket permission) to use the fan work, and get to remixing, recycling, reusing, and reimagining. The trick is that as long as permission is obtained and it's a Kradam fic, no other rules apply. (Always wanted to see if you could remix a fic where the write is out of fandom and thus unlikely to join a remix challenge with assignments? Ever wanted to expand on a collection of art but art is rarely included in remix challenges? This is the place to do it all.)
Accepted Fanworks: all remixes of Kradam fan works used with permission

How It Works: ...look, I don't think this one has a snowball's chance in a fry-cooker, but come on, someone had to say it. Fanfic, fanart, fancake, winsome handmade scarfs or bag buttons, whatever. The point is that a fox, in reference or, um, person, has to be involved.
Dates: Due date would be November 1st.
Fanworks: All the standard media that's welcome at 'Madness.
